Richard Nicholls
Tenacity
“Nature may be fragile but its tenacity can't be doubted—always fighting back to thrive once again, given half a chance. At the epochal scale, five previous mass extinctions on Earth have proved this, but even on a daily basis, nature's ability to take back ground when humans have left is always evident.”
Richard Nicholls’ work is mainly project-based, making series of images which work together within a theme or concept, or which respond to an underlying real-world issue or concern. He makes work using digital and photographic techniques, exploring topics around equality, technology and the environment. More recently, he has been interested in releasing work in different forms, moving away from just producing prints to hang in frames or post online. This includes video, projected imagery and making small-run, hand-made photo books and zines. His practice is constantly evolving – driven by curiosity, experimentation and the challenge of always making something new. He enjoys the process of creating as much as producing the final image.
